An Air India Dreamliner flight, AI171, crashed mere seconds after departing from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport embarking for London on June 12, 2025. Due to the intensity of the fire, many victims were unrecognizable, and authorities are now relying on DNA testing for identification.

Rescue operations continued throughout the night. Medical students, doctors, and staff from B.J. Medical College joined in the efforts, offering assistance where they could. Witnesses described scenes of devastation—collapsed walls, melted debris, and the remains of belongings scattered around the crash site.

Technical Investigation Underway

Authorities have recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders. A joint investigation team involving the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, Boeing, and international experts is examining what led to the disaster. Preliminary reports suggest a possible mechanical or engine failure, but no official cause has been confirmed yet.

This crash is the first fatal accident involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner model. The incident has raised urgent questions about aircraft safety, leading to global concern.
